Breaking Through your Creative Block
Keys to unlock your untapped creative flow

Let’s face it: in a world full of demands, it’s easy to overwork our creative juices to the point of exhaustion. Suddenly we feel stuck.
A creative block is frequently the result of one or more of the following:
- Your source of inspiration has run dry.
We have a tendency to overwork ourselves and overlook the importance of exposing our minds to new ideas and environments.
- You’ve let your work consume you.
To produce great work, every creator must focus, but not to the point where it consumes them.
Maintaining a healthy distance from your work is essential for processing new solutions. This can be accomplished by going for a walk, taking a nap, or simply playing a game.
- You’re trying way too hard
Effort is important, but if inspiration if forced, it can lead to a creative block.
Remember that inspiration is like a wave; you must launch out into the deep, paddle, and ride the waves you encounter. You can’t force the sea; all you can do is show up and ride the waves that come your way.
So, how do we get out of a creative rut?
First and foremost, don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re not a robot. You’re a person. And with that comes many of the variables.
Second, move your body and get out of your head. Do something unusual. Talk to a colleague in your field about how you can help each other improve.
Remember that a creative block isn’t a reflection of who you are or your talent. It happens to everyone, and you have all the tools you need to overcome it.
