3 THINGS CREATORS CAN LEARN FROM ADELLE

I just had the pleasure of watching “An Audience with Adelle” on ITV, and I must admit that I was very impressed;

Not because of Adelle’s gifted voice (I always knew she was brilliant as an artist), but I was amazed by how relatable and insightful her work and self-presentation was.

A few insightful things stuck out to me that I feel will be useful to anyone on a creator’s journey:

1. Dare to connect with raw emotions.

Adelle’s songs and performance showed that authentic expression is her superpower, as she captured and captivated the audience with her emotional songs.

Learning from this as a creator, we can aspire to make things that are not superficial but have the ability to resonate with the core human emotions.

So consider how you can consciously include heartfelt emotions from all spectrums in your work.

2. Encourage open and honest discussion.

The night also included open questions from those who were fortunate enough to be present. Adelle warmly responded to her peers, providing us with more information and insight about her as a person and her creative process.

Inviting discussions about your work is a good approach to highlight the inspirations and challenges that went into creating it. Questions allow people to have a chance to connect with you beyond your work.

Remember, we live in an era where people want to be supporters and investors in what provides them value and joy; if your work fits that desire, building dialogue around your process may be the key to converting fans into committed supporters.

3. Never give up on excellence, elegance, or enjoyment.

Adelle’s performance was without a doubt outstanding. It’s clear she put in the effort to ensure her craft was of the highest calibre.

So listen, if you’re not giving your all into what you’re making and having fun while you're doing it, why do you expect the entire world to stop and pay attention to you? I know that's a hard truth, but with so many distractions you need to strive to cut above the noise by being undoubtfully great at what you do.

Adelle also embodied elegance while remaining true to herself. She showed how, with a little contemplation, wounds may be transformed into wisdom like the precious pearls.

While excellence refers to the quality of the work, elegance refers to how that work expresses itself. So whatever you do, aim to have a coherence of beauty and majesty in the things you make.
